Job Description

The Demand Planner is part of the Demand Planning team (Group Supply Chain) and reports to the Demand Planning Manager. The scope stretches across all sales organizations and customer accounts. The primary function of this role is to act as a liaison between Commercial and Supply Planning to improve customer service.

Execute Core Demand Planning process

  • Responsible for interfacing with the business and layering business assumptions into the Demand Plan.
  • Responsible for the statistical forecast, analysis, and reporting, owns single set of numbers, official sales forecast feeding the S&OP.
  • Responsible for root cause analysis of forecast error and create in conjunction with the businesses gaps to correct.
  • Responsible to create glide path on MAPE – BIAS forecast error target setting.
  • Responsible to identify segmentation opportunities, liaison between supply chain and business (concept of segmentation à group products by category family, group, markets, customers).
  • Responsible to analytics, such as ABC (standard 80/20 analysis of finished goods based on value, margin and business priority. Done on a regular basis).
  • Assist Sales in developing demand forecasts based on demand patterns and business trends.
  • Assist Sales in adjusting forecasts based on seasonal products, promotions and discounts.
  • Provide support to Sales in developing seasonal demand forecasts and anticipate customers reactions to the promotions and discounts
  • Assist Sales in determining demand forecasts to support in budgeting and inventory management.
  • Assist in developing and executing demand plan to achieve company goals.
  • Assist Sales in maintaining and feeding demand planning systems to improve forecast accuracy.
  • Perform root cause analysis of demand issues and provide permanent resolutions.
  • Provide forecast updates to management, supply planning team and sales team on regular basis.
  • Assist in developing annual budgets.
  • Keep Sales accountable for the customer demand forecast.
  • Identify opportunities together with Sales to meet customer demands during constrained supply.
  • Act as gatekeeper to agreed company lead times for forecasting feed of promotions.
  • Monitor and report on important changes in sales forecasts, budgets, and business strategies.
  • Challenge Marketing & Sales plans in order to enable excellence in execution, lowest cost and lean assortment.
  • Review weekly and monthly sales to provide an analysis to cross-functional teams and to drive necessary changes to demand forecast.
  • Understands and provides input of impact due to sales volatility, promotional events, etc.

Coordinate with stakeholders

  • Act as Business Liaison between Commercial and Ops.
  • Address demand related queries and issues in a timely manner to Sales/Supply Planning.
  • Escalate complex demand issues to management for immediate resolutions to Demand Planning Manager.
  • Support in new product launch and align on phasing out and phasing in process with Sales and Supply Planning team.
  • Schedule monthly forecast review meetings with respective key account managers as required.
  • Support Finance with budget process.

Reporting and Data input

  • Provide input to the Demand Planning Manager for KPI reporting.
  • Provide input to Step 2 of the S&OP process.
  • Provide input to annual budget process.

Overall responsibilities

  • Key user for SAP IBP Demand planning.
  • Report into the Demand Planning Manager
  • Position based in Dordrecht, The Netherlands

Other duties may be assigned by the company as deemed necessary.



  • Strong analytical skills with demonstrated problem solving.
  • Ability to effectively work cross functionally, to use influencing skills, build consensus and drive decision making.
  • Solid understanding of applied math and the statistical methods used to create forecasts is vital
  • Ability to analyse and use critical thinking skills on a regular basis is key.
  • Ability to present and explain certain recommended forecasting moves.
  • Fluent English, proficient in German.


  • Minimum of 3 year experience in Demand Planning.
  • Experience with SAP or SAP IBP.
  • Bachelor or master degree, preferably in Business administration, Supply Chain, Operations Management.
  • Strong knowledge of Supply Chain concepts and processes (supply, demand, capacity and distribution planning and inventory management)
